The XLI Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE)<\/strong> and XVIII Congress of the Portuguese Epidemiology Association (APE)<\/strong> was held in Porto (Portugal) in early September, from 5 to 8 September. The meeting brought together experts from different branches of knowledge to think about epidemiology and the construction of the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alejandro Salazar<\/strong> and Marta Moreno<\/strong> attended the Portuguese city on behalf of the Pain Observatory in order to disseminate the results of the Observatory’s work.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On the one hand, Alejandro Salazar presented the results of a new classification of European countries according to economic and health indicators, which is more appropriate than the current one for health research purposes. On the other hand, Alejandro also disseminated the final results of his project on the relationships of the variables of the biopsychosocial model of pain in the diabetic population with neuropathy. These complex associations were analysed using structural equations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the case of Marta Moreno, she presented the results of the baseline data from the PainReApp study, on which her doctoral thesis is based. Both papers focused on functional interference in patients with chronic low back pain: one on the psychometric properties of the Pictorial Pain Interference Questionnaire, a functional interference assessment tool, and the other on the biopsychosocial factors associated with this measurement outcome.<\/span><\/p>\n

The congress programme brought together a wide range of round tables, presentations, workshops and other activities on the science, practice and new horizons of epidemiology, all under the slogan of this edition: “Epidemiology to build the future”. Topics such as gender and health, inequalities, obesity, COVID-19, chronic diseases, environment and health, quality of life… among others, were discussed.<\/span><\/p>\n
