From 28 to 30 May, the 21st Congress of the Spanish Pain Society (SED) took place at the Trade Fair and Congress Centre in Málaga. During this event, healthcare professionals, young researchers, and experts from both national and international fields gathered to share knowledge, experiences, and the latest developments in the field of pain.
Over the course of the three-day congress, the aim was to highlight the need to invest in coordinated and multidisciplinary healthcare, from primary to specialised care, and to stress that one of the main goals is to make life easier for patients in managing their pain.

Representing the Pain Observatory, two members of the group actively participated in this scientific outreach event. Professor Dr José Antonio Moral, physiotherapist and member of the SED’s Digital Technology and Pain working group, presented a poster titled “Pain and Quality of Life Progression in Patients with Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome”, the result of a study conducted in collaboration with Hospital Puerta del Mar and the LongCovid Andalucía association.
Meanwhile, physiotherapist Dr Marta Moreno presented a poster titled “Biopsychosocial Factors Associated with Sleep Evolution in People with Chronic Low Back Pain”, based on data from her recent doctoral thesis. The study identifies the relationship between various contextual factors (individual, social, and psychological) and sleep quality, an aspect that is gaining increasing relevance in the management of chronic pain.
We once again enjoyed an enriching scientific event, both professionally and personally, in an outstanding location. And from the south to the north… see you next year in Vitoria-Gasteiz, host of the next SED Congress.
