On 14 February 2025, our colleague from the Pain Observatory, Marta Moreno, defended her doctoral thesis titled “Effectiveness of a Physical Exercise-based Intervention delivered by an m-Health system on Biopsychosocial variables in Patients with Chronic Pain from different origin,” supervised by Dr Inmaculada Failde Martínez and Dr José A. Moral Muñoz.
This moment marked the perfect conclusion to Marta’s four-year predoctoral journey as a physiotherapist, culminating in the highest distinction: “Sobresaliente Cum Laude.”

The defence took place in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Nursing and Physiotherapy at the University of Cádiz, in a hybrid format. The examining board was composed of Dr David Lucena (University of Cádiz), Dr Noelia Galiano (University of Granada), and Dr Luis Azevedo (University of Porto), with the aim of achieving international recognition for the doctorate.

The thesis, presented as a compendium of scientific articles, examines the evidence on the use of technology (m-Health) for managing chronic pain, and includes the evaluation of an m-Health system called PainReApp, specifically developed by the Pain Observatory research group to deliver a self-guided physical exercise programme for individuals with chronic low back pain.
The results of this research have been presented at various national and international conferences, and published in prestigious international scientific journals.
