On 13th December, the Ateneo Literario, Artístico y Científico de Cádiz held the 23rd edition of its Gaditanos of the Year Awards, an event dedicated to recognising the talent, effort, and commitment of individuals and organisations connected to the city. During the solemn ceremony, held in the Plenary Hall of Cádiz City Hall, Dr Inmaculada Failde, Director of the Pain Observatory, was honoured with the Gaditana of the Year Award in the Scientific Field, highlighting her invaluable contribution to research and analysis.

The event was presided over by José Almenara Barrios, President of the Ateneo, and Maite González García-Negrotto, First Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Economy, Finance, Public Function and Culture of Cádiz City Council.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Dr Failde emphasised that the award was not solely a personal achievement but rather “the result of the support from family, colleagues, collaborators, and friends who have always been there.” Her words reflected the humility and collaborative spirit that have defined her professional career, cementing her reputation as a leading figure in both the scientific and social spheres.
During the ceremony, other awards were presented in different categories, recognising achievements in areas such as culture, the arts, sports, and flamenco. Among the awardees were Juan Antonio Macías Gutiérrez, Gaditano of the Year Award in the Literary Field; Cecilio Chaves, in the Artistic Field; the Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium, in the Business Field; Cádiz Club de Fútbol Genuine, in the Sports Field; and Chano Domínguez Lozano, in the Flamenco Field.
With a history spanning over 160 years, the Ateneo Literario, Artístico y Científico de Cádiz remains a symbol of Cádiz’s cultural identity. Through these awards, the institution reinforces its commitment to the city, not only by recognising talent but also by inspiring future generations to contribute to the development of their community.
This tribute to Inmaculada Failde and the other awardees is not only a celebration of their individual accomplishments but also a reminder of the importance of collaboration, mutual support, and dedication in striving for excellence.
