In early September in Barcelona, the XXXV Scientific Meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE) was celebrated together with the XVII Congress of the Spanish Society of Public Health (SESPAS), the XII Congress of the Portuguese Associaçao of Epidemiology, and the XXXVII Conference of Health Economy. The chosen place this time was the campus of the Ciutadella de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona).
The Observatory of Pain has actively participated in this event with the slogan “Science for action” and conferences about three topics. The first topic we addressed was the treatment of pain and the use of Clinical Practice Guides (CPG) in the talk entitled “The impact of the use of Clinical Practice Guides on the care of patients with chronic pain”. It was presented by Alejandro Salazar with the objective of evaluating the impact of adherence to CPG of different medical professionals involved in the management of chronic pain.
Likewise, our team spoke about the economic crisis, a topic with special social relevance, with the talk “Impact of the economic crisis on the pharmacological treatment of pain”. It was defended by Helena de Sola in a crowded and relaxed session and its goal was to identify the effect of the Spanish economic crisis on the expense, prescription and consumption of analgesic medicines to treat chronic pain.
Finally, the study entitled “Spanish general population’s vision about the use of opiates on the treatment of pain. The identification of subgroups through the cluster analysis”, was also presented by the Observatory with the aim of knowing the beliefs, opinions, fears, and attitudes of the Spanish population about the use of opiates to treat pain and the identification of those subgroups.
The members of the Observatory of Pain returned from the event with new research methods and with updated knowledge about several topics of the Public Health field, facts that join the pleasure of having enjoyed the welcoming and cosmopolitan city of Barcelona. We are already looking forward to next year’s meeting which will take place in Lisbon (Portugal).
