We Participated in the SED Congress León 2024

The XX Congress of the Spanish Pain Society (SED) took place last May, from Wednesday the 29th to Friday the 31st, at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in the city of León. During this event, national and international experts, as well as young talents, gathered to share recent progress in pain research, advances in treatments, controversies, and the most well-documented evidence.

As representatives of the Pain Observatory of the University of Cádiz, Inmaculada Failde and José A. Moral traveled to the city of León to present the results of the latest works of the Observatory.

Professor Inmaculada Failde presented two communications: the first, “Prevalence of sick leave due to Chronic Pain in the Spanish population. Results of the Barometer,” is part of the “Pain Barometer” project, carried out in collaboration with the Grünenthal Foundation, and aims to know the prevalence of sick leave in patients with chronic pain (CP) in the last year in Spain and the sociodemographic, clinical differences, and use of healthcare resources between those who needed sick leave and those who did not.

The second, “Pain and quality of life in patients with Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome,” aims to understand the sociodemographic characteristics, health problems, and quality of life of people suffering from Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS). Additionally, Inmaculada Failde gave a lecture titled “Chronic Pain and Mental Comorbidity, Sleep Disorders and Cognitive Function in Men and Women,” at the panel titled: “Analyzing the Interaction and Impact of Sex and Gender on Chronic Pain,” which will be available on the SED website, along with an interview with Professor Failde.

Professor José A. Moral, on his part, presented the results of the PainReApp study, under the title “Self-directed Physical Exercise in People with Chronic Low Back Pain: Mobile Application or Paper?” This work aims to determine the efficacy of the PainReApp mobile application for prescribing a self-directed physical exercise program in people with chronic low back pain. The congress program combined presentations and round tables from various branches of knowledge, addressing pain from a multidisciplinary approach, with a common goal: the patient with pain and their environment.

From the Pain Observatory, we thank the SED and the rest of our colleagues for this productive and highly interesting edition, which leaves us eagerly anticipating the next edition to be held in Málaga.

See you soon in the capital of the Costa del Sol!
